A sad farewell

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.  And medicine, law, business, engineering – these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.  But poetry, beauty, romance, love – these are what we stay alive for.”

  1. He was a man of many faces. None of which were better than his real life persona. He dedicated much of his life helping those less fortunate than himself and made me laugh so hard that I cried. We all have our demons.

    He will be sorely missed.

  2. I have been so profoundly affected by his passing. I did not know him. I never met him. I did grow up watching him grow. I remember the episode of Happy Days in which his character was introduced. I knew then, even as a kid, that this man was special – a pure unforgettable and immeasurable talent. I knew he battled alcohol. I was in awe of the fact that he was able to kick the booze – my dad never did and it killed him. I saw Mr. Williams as the consummate artist. Yes, he could make me laugh off of my chair, but when I saw his serious face, I was fearful. Fearful of watching such an incredible presence change in a blink of an eye – I knew he knew something. Felt something. Believed in something – that same thing that so many tortured souls feel, yet, it is where the essence of their art is created. I feel saddened by his death, even more so because I can understand it. I can understand that feeling where the lines of reality are blurred and can destroy a person.
